Yesterday, the city’s midtown neighborhood was on lockdown as authorities swarmed the area in search of the shooter. Patterson was eventually apprehended in Cobb County, just northwest of Atlanta.

Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Charles Hampton Jr. has not disclosed any details about the investigation or the possible motive behind the attack, saying, “Why he did what he did, all of that is still under investigation.”

The shooting took place in a Northside Medical building where Patterson had an appointment. The two-minute rampage ended when Patterson fled the scene, stealing an unattended pickup truck from a nearby Shell gas station. The deceased victim has been identified as 39-year-old Amy St. Pierre, who worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC expressed sadness over her unexpected loss.

The four wounded women, aged 25, 39, 56 and 71, remain in critical but stable condition. Their names have not yet been released.
