Biden Says Damage Done by Hurricane Ian Will Takes Years To Fix

President Joe Biden says the damage from Hurricane Ian is immense. Speaking in Fort Myers, Florida, the president said the federal government will remain there until the state fully recovers.

After giving President Biden a tour of Southwest Florida communities, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis credited the president’s approval of a major disaster declaration allowing first responders from around the country to move in as soon as the weather cleared.

“We are cutting through the bureaucracy. We are cutting through the red tape. And that’s from local government, state government, all the way up to the president,” DeSantis said.

President Biden added the administration is working day and night to ensure every family that needs help, gets help.

“It’s going to take a lot, a lot of time. Not weeks or months, it’s gonna take years for everything to get squared away,” the president said.

Nearly 100,000 structures have been searched so far. More than 2,500 rescues have been performed. More than 45 million bottles of water and 2 million pounds of ice have been handed out.
