In a groundbreaking move, Brown University has appointed Elfred Anthony Pinkard, a highly experienced educator in historically Black colleges and universities, as their first-ever HBCU presidential fellow effective July 1.
Pinkard will retire this spring as president of Wilberforce University, the nation’s oldest private HBCU. He is tasked with leading an effort to strengthen and expand Brown’s relationship with HBCUs, building on the historic 59-year-old Brown-Tougaloo Partnership. The aim is to establish bold, innovative partnerships that aim to advance educational and institutional equity.
The Brown-Tougaloo Partnership was established during the Civil Rights Movement and offers many opportunities for collaboration, including undergraduate exchange programs, research collaborations, and public health programs.
The move underscores Brown University’s ongoing commitment to promoting diversity and equity in higher education.
