Classified Countdown: Trump’s Tangle With Justice

Former President Donald Trump landed in Florida Monday ahead of a major court appearance happening in Miami after being indicted on 37 felony counts. Trump is accused of hoarding classified documents and thwarting the Justice Department’s recovery efforts. The case involves national security and potential espionage charges.

Trump and his allies are cranking up efforts to undermine the case and stir up protests. The former president even took a shot at Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith, calling him “deranged.” If elected for a second term, Trump has promised to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate President Biden and his family.

One of his supporters, Kari Lake, a former Republican gubernatorial candidate in Arizona, added that if prosecutors want Trump, they’ll have to go through his 75 million Americans, including her.

Florida is bracing for potential unrest. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and Police Chief Manuel A. Morales have reassured citizens, stating that they are prepared for crowds of up to 50,000.
