The College Board has announced that changes will be made to the Advanced Placement (AP) course in African American Studies to ensure that it reflects the dynamic nature of the subject.
Scholars and experts in the field will determine the details of the changes over the next few months during the pilot phase.
The goal is to provide a representative college-level course that delivers an accurate portrayal of African American history and culture. The demand for the course has grown tremendously from 60 schools in the first pilot year to 800 schools and 16,000 students in the current school year.
The updated framework will ensure that students have access to a comprehensive introduction to African American Studies.
