Executive Order Aims to Safeguard Access to Reproductive Healthcare

It’s been two weeks since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade protecting a woman’s right to choose. Last week, President Biden signed an executive order protecting access to reproductive healthcare services. The president directed the secretary of Health and Human Services to take several actions and submit a report to him within 30 days.

Those efforts include protecting and expanding access to abortion care, ensuring patients have full access to emergency medical care, protecting access to contraception, ensuring the safety of patients, providers, and third parties, and launching outreach and public education efforts.

The executive order also directed HHS and the White House Gender Policy Council to establish and lead an interagency task force that will coordinate policy-making and provide technical assistance to states affording legal protection to out-of-state patients and providers.
