First Black Female Trustee Named at University of Montevallo

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivery has appointed Cynthia Todd to serve on the University of Montevallo Board of Trustees. She’s the first Black woman to serve as a UM trustee.

Todd received her bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from the same school in 1988.

She retired as the operations manager of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and also worked as a manager at Protective Life in Birmingham for more than 20 years. In 2020, she was elected as the first Black president of the University of Montevallo National Alumni Association. She served in that position for two years.

In addition to her degree at UM, Todd holds a master’s degree in non-profit, public and organizational management from Birmingham-Southern College.
