The 2022 BET Soul Train Music Awards, hosted by comedian Deon Cole, was taped on November 13, 2022, and aired on BET during the Thanksgiving Day weekend on November 26, 2022. There were many outstanding moments but none more memorable for gospel lovers than the moment that supergroup collaborative  Maverick City Music and award-winning songwriterKirk Franklin were named this year’s recipients of the Best Song/Performance Award.

The announcement came as the collective group of artists were on theKingdom Arena tour, a 14-date extension to the 37-city Kingdom tour that concluded last July.   Other nominees in this year’s category for the Best Gospel/Inspirational Award included Marvin Sapp,  Tamela MannCeCe Winans, Tasha Cobbs Leonard,Fred Hammond, Erica Campbell, and MAJOR .

A Night of Inspiration Returns to Carnegie Hall in NY

Ray Chew, composer, music director, and producer and his wife, co-producer Vivian Scott-Chew, are once again hosting “A Night of Inspiration,” an uplifting evening of holiday music, dance, and spoken word from diverse traditions. The annual event will take place at New York City’s Carnegie Hall and will feature soloists and cross-genre pairings from artists who will perform and be accompanied by a 64-piece orchestra and a 150-voice multicultural choir.

A special finale is also planned as a tribute to “The Maestro,” gospel great Richard Smallwood. This year’s concert will include performances by Lauren Alaina, Regina Belle, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Erica Campbell, Jekalyn Carr, Olen Cesari, Val Chmerkovskiy, Anthony Hamilton, Donald Lawrence, MAJOR., Evvie McKinney, Cantor Azi Schwartz, Richard Smallwood, Tye Tribbett, Bishop Hezekiah Walker and others.

DOE Prepares for First Solo Tour

3X Grammy-nominated gospel artist DOE will present “A Night of Clarity,” a full live experience of her award-winning debut album Clarity during her first solo tour. The multi-city tour will be an intimate engagement scheduled to take place at City Winery venues in Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; Washington, DC; and Philadelphia, PA. DOE will be performing inspiring songs from her 2022 full-length debut album, during those intimate concerts. “Clarity,” recently won the Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year and features several of her #1 hit songs including “When I Pray” and “Brighter,” which was released by Jonathan McReynolds Life Room Labelin partnership with RCA Inspiration. DOE has also released a new recording of the beloved classic carol “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” feat. IAMSON for the holidays. McDonald’s Annual Holiday Gospel Tour is Coming Back

Just in time for the holiday season, McDonald’s is hosting a special homecoming themed holiday experience on the final stop of their 16th Annual Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour (ICGT). Through a longstanding partnership, the restaurant brand supports an intergenerational celebration of Black faith, culture and excellence that will be hosted by gospel singer Lonnie Hunter. Performances will be featured by award-winning gospel artists including Jekalyn CarrAnthony HamiltonDonald LawrenceSmokie NorfulKierra Sheard-Kelly, and Samoht, with special appearances by social media comedian @NotKarltonBanks and poet J. Ivy.The 16th Annual Inspiration CelebrationGospel Tour Holiday Experience will take place at the New Light Church in Houston, Texas. Free tickets will once again be available online at blackandpositivelygolden.com. The show will air on REVOLT TV on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT, and will be available to stream on the REVOLT TV YouTube channel on Sunday, Dec. 18th  at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT.

Holiday Movie “Night Before Christmas” to air on Lifetime

Lifetime has released their roster of upcoming holiday movies including the original film, “Kirk Franklin’s The Night BeforeChristmas,” starring singer, songwriter, and actress Naturi Naughton, Lorea Turner and Luke JamesThe family entertainment film is set to premiere Saturday, December 10th at8:00 pm ET. The film was executive produced by 16x Grammy-winner Kirk Franklin who also stars in the film.  The story follows an estranged mother and daughter played by Naughton and Turner who get caught in a blizzard on Christmas Eve are forced to take refuge inside a church where a handful of fellow trapped parishioners are reeling from the cancellation of their annual holiday concert. The spirit of the season comes together with Adam, a handsome youth pastor played by James and Franklin who cameos as a heavenly music teacher, help to motivate the mother and daughter to reconcile their differences through music, faith, and love.
