In Letter To Biden Griner Says, “I’m Terrified I Might Be Here Forever”

“I’m terrified I might be here forever” is what imprisoned WNBA star Brittney Griner wrote in a letter to President Biden, pleading for help to get her out of Russia. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the president has read the letter.

“I was there when he read the letter. We believe…she’s being wrongfully detained. This is an issue that is a priority for this president,” Jean-Pierre said.

“[Presdient Biden] believes that any U.S. national that is held, we need to bring back safely. And we are going to use every tool that we possibly can. I don’t have anything else to read out as far as a potential call or meeting with her family.”

Concerning whether a prisoner swap was also on the table, Jean-Pierre would not comment.

On CBS Mornings, Griner’s wife Cherelle said that she’s tired of being silent and now she’s pushing the government to do everything possible because being quiet, they’re not moving.

Griner is facing charges for allegedly bringing marijuana into Russia. The U.S. says she is being wrongfully detained.
