Mayor Bowser Declares Public Health Emergency Over Migrant Busing

The war of words over housing people who have entered the country illegally at the U.S. border continues. AURN has continued its reporting on Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sending migrants to Washington, D.C., New York City, and Chicago.

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has declared a public health emergency, and the city plans to spend an additional $10 million on support for those who arrive.

Close to 8,000 people have arrived in the nation’s capital alone. Gov. Abbott says he wants to bring attention to the border crisis.

Mayor Bowser’s response: “I’m a mayor and I have the first responsibility to make sure that this city operates. And anybody in my position likes to know what the environment is. Unknowns are bad, and what we’re dealing with is a big unknown. And it is an unknown that we are gonna do our best to prepare for to make sure that we have an infrastructure that we didn’t have.”
