National Security Council Official Walks Back Biden’s Armageddon Comments

President Biden’s recent Armageddon comments concerning Russia were not based on new intelligence, according to U.S. intelligence officials.

“The President, I think, was accurately reflecting the fact that the stakes are very high right now,” National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby said during an appearance on ABC’s This Week

But he made it clear that U.S. intelligence was not seeing any indication that Russian President Vladimir Putin had made a decision to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine or that the U.S. would need to shift its policy. He added the U.S. would continue its support of Ukraine and provide aid going forward.

“His comments were not based on new or fresh intelligence or new indications that Mr. Putin has made a decision and we’re going to continue to provide support and security assistance to Ukraine as is necessary,” Kirby said.

He was reacting to comments made by the president at a fundraiser in New York last Thursday where he said we have not faced the current prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
