NY Shelters Overburdened With Migrants Bused In by Texas Governor

Tensions are escalating between New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas) as more migrant buses arrive in New York.

“We’ll continue to welcome asylum seekers with open arms and provide them the services they need,” Mayor Adams said.

He says that Republican Gov. Abbott’s actions are possibly unlawful and called on Texas to at least notify state leaders about migrant buses being sent. New York City’s Department of Homeless Services reported over 56,000 people in the city’s shelter system just last week.

Adams has suggested cruise ships may be used to house thousands of migrants who have been entering shelters. Abbott says he plans to continue sending buses to sanctuary cities until the federal government does more to secure the border.

“Every community in America should be sharing in the burdens. It shouldn’t all fall on a handful of red states. What would be the best for Biden to do his damn job and secure the border,” Gov. Abbott said.
