On this day in 1984, Michael Jackson set the record for most Grammy wins in a single night

On this day in 1984, pop legend Michael Jackson set the record for most Grammy wins in a single night when his album Thriller earned him eight awards. Thriller, released Nov. 30, 1982, spent 37 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the second-longest run in the top spot since 1956, when the chart became a weekly feature.

Throughout his career of chart-topping hits and awe-inspiring performances, Jackson won a total of 13 Grammys. In 1993, Jackson was awarded the Grammy Legend Award and in 2010 the Recording Academy posthumously awarded him the Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Michael Jackson passed away in June 2009. He was 50 years old.
