In partnership with the Chicago Public Library, Third World Press Foundation, Brooks Permissions, and Northwestern University Press, the Poetry Foundation has launched One Poem, One Chicago.
The initiative aims to foster community and promote poetry through reading. The program will begin with a reissue of Gwendolyn Brooks’ groundbreaking poetry collection Blacks, which will be available through the Chicago Public Library and public programming.
Blacks, which features Brooks’ Pulitzer Prize-winning collection, Annie Allen, was first published in 1987 and has become a seminal work in American poetry. Copies of the newly published edition will be made available at all 81 branches of the Chicago Public Library and the Poetry Foundation’s 30,000-volume poetry library in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. A limited run of the collection will be available for purchase from Third World Press Foundation.
