Queen Elizabeth II Dead at 96 Years Old

Queen Elizabeth II has died at the age of 96. She reigned for 70 years, the longest of any British monarch. Upon her passing, the eldest son immediately becomes King Charles, moving up in the line of succession.

There are tributes being held around the world, flags flown at half staff, and crowds gathering at Windsor Castle where the Queen stayed. Even in the U.S., the New York Stock Exchange paused in the final hours to honor her.

In a statement from the White House, President Biden called her “a stateswoman of unmatched dignity and constancy who deepened the bedrock alliance between the United Kingdom and the United States.”
