Quiet On Talks As Lawmakers Still Push On Gun Reform Negotiations

“I’m encouraged by the discussions that we have had with Republicans over the course of the last week and a half. Every day, we get closer to an agreement, not further away,” Democratic Senator Chris Murphy said while standing alongside Democratic colleagues.

Murphy is working with Republican Senator John Cornyn on negotiations involving gun reform legislation after the recent surge of mass shootings. Murphy also met with President Biden at the White House to update him.

During the White House press briefing, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was pressed about the negotiations. She stated:

“We haven’t seen these types of steps in a long time. And so the president is encouraged by it. He welcomes it. We’re not going to speak to what exactly is being discussed, the pieces of legislation. But we are encouraged. They want to see that Congress actually can put their politics aside and come in a bipartisan way and deliver something. It’s time for the Senate to make a move and it’s time for the Senate to take action.”
