Rep. Zoe Lofgren Says Trumps ‘Big Lie’ Was Also A ‘Big Ripoff’

The second public hearing about the investigation into the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol kicked off on Monday. The aim was to show that Trump was well aware that there was no voter fraud, and taped testimony from his own attorney general Bill Barr backed that up.

“There was an avalanche of all these allegations of fraud that built up over a number of days. And it was like playing whack-a-mole because something would come out one day and then the next day it would be another issue.”

With each interview, the committee showed that Trump’s own legal team and campaign members investigated and discounted every claim of widespread voter fraud that Trump presented.

During the hearing, Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-Ca.) said that Trump’s push was not only a “big lie” but also a “big ripoff.” Lofgren showed how the former president took campaign money and funneled it into the Save America PAC, which gave $1 million to the Conservative Partnership Institute run by his former chief of staff, Mark Meadows. Another $1 million was issued to the America First Policy Institute, which employed former Trump employees, over $204,000 went to Trump Hotel Collection, and $5 million to Event Strategies Inc., the company that ran the January 6 Trump rally on the Ellipse.
