SCOTUS Overturns Roe v. Wade, Eyes Additional Landmark Rulings

Reaction across the U.S. is loud as the nation reacts to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, the law protecting women’s right to an abortion. President Biden held a news conference in reaction to the decision.

“The Court literally taking America back 150 years. The only way we can secure a women’s right to choose and the balance that existed is for Congress to restore the protections of Roe v. Wade as federal law,” the president said.

Already 13 states have trigger laws that have gone into effect banning abortion immediately, but the fallout does not stop there. In a separate opinion by Justice Clarence Thomas after Friday’s decision, he said in future cases we should reconsider all of the Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold v. Connecticut, Lawrence v. Texas, and Obergefell v. Hodges.

These are cases that look at rights to contraception, same-sex consensual relations, and same-sex marriage that could soon be on the chopping block.
