Tragic Mall Shooting: A Familiar Nightmare

In a deadly shooting at an outlet mall near Dallas, eight people have been killed and seven victims are being treated at trauma facilities. The lone gunman, identified as Mauricio Garcia, is also dead.

The attack occurred at Allen Premium outlets where terrified shoppers and workers hid. Authorities initially searched for a second gunman, but later confirmed the shooter acted alone. The gunman was killed by an Allen police officer.

Garcia had expressed interest in white supremacist and neo-Nazi views on social media. He also had a patch on his chest reading RWDS, an acronym authorities believe stands for “right wing death squad.”

Armed with an AR-15 style firearm and multiple other weapons, the suspect was clad in black body armor and had several extra magazines in his chest gear. The mass shooting follows a series of gun violence incidents across the nation, with the Allen attack being one of at least 199 this year.

In response, President Joe Biden urged Congress again to enact tighter restrictions on firearms and ammunition, criticizing Republicans for meeting the epidemic with a shrug.
