Trump Pleads the Fifth in N.Y. AG’s Investigation of Business Practices

Former President Donald Trump repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination during a deposition that is part of a civil investigation out of the New York attorney general’s office. They’re looking into possible shady business practices within the Trump Organization. In a statement on his social media platform, Truth Social, he said he declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution. He also called it the greatest witch hunt in U.S. history.

Rep. Eric Swall said he’s confident in the process:

“Justice is coming, you know, for the corrupt. And I am confident that when all is said and done that the rule of law is going to prevail.”

The AG’s office says that there’s evidence that the organization inflated real estate values to deceptively get favorable bank loans.
