Former President Donald Trump is due at a Miami federal courthouse today. The case against him revolves around allegations that he illicitly kept national security documents post-presidency and threw roadblocks in the way of their retrieval.
Trump has passionately condemned the indictment and is expected to jet off to New Jersey right after the hearing. At 8:15 p.m., he is slated to speak at his golf club in Bed Minister.
Meanwhile, Miami is bracing for potential protests from both Trump supporters who see the indictment as an act of war and detractors eager to see justice served.
Overseeing the case is Judge Aileen Cannon. She’s the one who tackled a Trump lawsuit filed in response to an FBI search of his Mar-a-Lago estate. Judge Cannon was appointed by Trump just after he lost the 2020 election and has made previous rulings in his favor, stirring up some controversy.
Former Trump Attorney General William Barr, who was previously in Trump’s corner, stated on Fox News on Sunday that Trump was not a victim in this case.
