The war of words between Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott continues as the Lone Star State continues to bus immigrants who have come into the country illegally to Chicago, New York City, and Washington, DC. Gov. Abbott says border towns in Texas have been overburdened because of current immigration policies.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the latest group arrived last weekend. Mayor Lightfoot says she’s ready to welcome immigrants but also wants to make sure they recieve help from the federal government.
“Not just to Chicago, but in all the cities and states that are welcoming cities and states to make sure that we’ve got the resources that we need,” Lighfoot said.
“But I think the level of understanding and collaboration is quite good. I’d love to have a conversation with Governor Abbott. I’d have a long list of things on my agenda, but I’ve been speaking obviously to him publicly about let’s just treat each other with respect.”
