Faith groups are speaking out against President Biden’s plan to expand Title 42. They’re calling for a more humane and welcoming asylum system.
Reuters recently reported the administration plans to expand asylum-blocking Title 42 expulsions to Venezuelans, Cubans, and Nicaraguans. The proposal contradicts the administration’s previous plans to put an end to the policy they say was misused to block migrants from seeking asylum at the U.S. southern border under the guise of protecting public health.
The reports come as border states are sending buses of asylum seekers primarily from Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua to northern cities like Washington, D.C., New York, Chicago, and now recently Martha’s Vineyard.
The campaign is called #WelcomeWithDignity.
