While Florida Gov. DeSantis Whitewashes Black History, New Jersey Gov. Murphy Expands It

New Jersey has made an important announcement during Black History Month. They’re going to teach more students about African-American studies in high schools. This is very different from what some other places are experiencing, such as in Florida, where Governor Ron DeSantis put a band on African-American AP studies in the state’s high schools last month.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is expanding it. This means more students will learn about the contributions of black Americans in the US and their contributions to making this country as strong as it has been. African American studies will be taught in 26 high schools starting in 2023. The course will have different topics like the origins of African people, what happened during slavery, how freedom was won, and important movements along the way.

Many experts who are happy with the decision say this is important to know the true history of America.
