The White House Releases Strategy To End U.S. Hunger

The White House released its strategy for ending hunger in this country over the next 10 years. The administration’s plan will focus on five areas.

Number one, improving food access and affordability. Number two, integrating nutrition and health by working with Congress on several programs. Three, empowering consumers to make and have healthy access and choices. Four, creating programs that support physical activity for all. And number five, enhancing nutrition and food security research, particularly on issues of equity and access.

In the U.S., 13.5 million households were food insecure, meaning at some point they were uncertain of having or unable to acquire food to meet their needs because of insufficient money or resources. States like Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, and South Carolina have some of the highest rates of food insecurity.

On a global scale, more than enough food is produced to feed the entire population, but as many as 828 million people still go hungry.
