Trevor Reed Says U.S. Not Doing Enough to Free Griner

Trevor Reed, who was freed from Russia in a prisoner swap, says the White House is not doing enough to bring home Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan. Meanwhile, Brittney Griner’s drug trial continues inside a Moscow courtroom. On Wednesday, she takes the stand to face cross-examination.

She faces 10 years in prison for being caught with less than a gram of cannabis at the airport that she was medically prescribed. A doctor testified in her defense that she needs it for pain management. Brittney’s attorney says she never meant to bring the cannabis but was rushing as she was packing and heading to the airport. Here’s her attorney Alexander Boykov:

“She was in a rush as she said, packing and this medication, she just forgot to take it out of her luggage. That’s it.”

Another attorney for Griner, Maria Blagovolina, says this:

“Assuming that there was a prescription, Brittney has rights to use it for medical purposes. We talk about, not about recreational purposes, but about medical purposes.”
