“It is an honor, the honor of a lifetime for me to have this chance to join the court, to promote the rule of law at the highest level, and to do my part to carry our shared project of democracy.”
That was the honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson receiving the nomination for the next Supreme Court justice. Today at noon, she was sworn in as the 104th associate justice of the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. administered the constitutional oath, and Associate Justice Stephen Breyer administered the judicial oath in the ceremony before a small gathering of judge Jackson’s family.
This ceremony was streamed live on the court’s website. Jackson is a veteran federal judge confirmed by the Senate for the Supreme Court in April. She’ll become the first Black woman to ever serve on the nation’s highest court.
