Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says diversity, equity, and inclusion programs will not be welcomed at the Lone Star State’s state agencies and universities.
The governor’s office called DEI practices illegal. A memo from a top aide said “forbidden DEI initiatives favor some demographic groups to the detriment of others.”
In response to the newspaper the Dallas Morning News, Abbott’s Chief of Staff, Gardner Pate, said “rather than increasing diversity in the workplace, these DEI initiatives are having the opposite effect and are being advanced in ways that proactively discriminate in the workplace.”
